WHAT OUR DEFINITION OF THANKFULNESS IS:

Thankfulness is having and showing gratitude towards good times, difficult times, self, and others.

WHY THANKFULNESS IS SO IMPORTANT:

Living a life of appreciation and gratitude positively impacts how we view the world around us, our experiences, and our relationships with ourselves and others.

Being grateful sets the foundation for everything in your life and is one of the most rewarding things you can do for yourself. It promotes positive mental health by increasing endorphins in our brains, which makes us feel happy, harmonious, and less stressed. This makes our experience at school and in life more enjoyable.

Thankfulness also creates a vibration of positivity with everyone we encounter, which creates stronger relationships that opens the doors to opportunities. When you show appreciation for others, it opens up hearts and minds and touches people on a deep emotional level. This changes the way they respond to you, making them want to do more with you and for you, and to be better in the world. Ultimately, it increases your ability to persuade and influence others.

Choosing to be thankful, even during difficult times, keeps you in a positive mindset that helps you come out on top.

Simply put, it makes you a better human.

WHERE THANKFULNESS FITS INTO YOUR PERSONAL BRAND:

Your personal brand is YOU! It is everything that makes you who you are and how others experience you.

Here's the thing, most people never experience the real YOU because it's buried behind insecurities, fears, traumas, anxiety, overwhelm, and lack of self-awareness and self-development.

Thankfulness, however, will help you break through those issues so that you can build your personal brand in a powerful way. Not only will it affect how you show up in the world, it also enhances how you feel and how you make others feel. Nothing will keep you more centered.

It is through your personal brand that people decide what kind of person you are and if they are interested in engaging with you. Having a thankful heart keeps you in a positive mental state, which makes you more approachable and likable. It shows that you have an appreciation for the world around you and that you don’t take anything for granted. It makes you more influential in all areas of your life.
Shylla Webb and Jonathan George teaching SEL

After 20 years of creating celebrity personal brands using social and emotional intelligence as the foundation, Jonathan George joined forces with Shylla Webb to create one of the most innovative deliveries of SEL. Jonathan has built the brands for some of the biggest young names in Hollywood who have over 150 million online followers. Shylla is a 23-year education veteran and SEL creative.

These two techniques together forge a unique and ground-breaking formula that is a game-changer in the effectiveness of social and emotional learning in education.

HOW TO DEVELOP THANKFULNESS

Simply do unto others as you would have them do to you. Pay attention, acknowledge, and show gratitude towards everyone and everything around you.

While being thankful comes naturally to some, it requires a conscious effort for others, especially in difficult situations and circumstances. It is important to make it an intentional practice until it becomes second nature. Here are important steps to developing appreciation:

How to develop thankfulness with Social Emotional Learning by Rock My Campus
  • Recognize that the world doesn’t owe you anything

  • Get rid of your sense of entitlement -“I deserve”

  • Accept and acknowledge when gratitude is given to you

  • Reframe and reposition negative circumstances to see the growth opportunities

  • Create a gratitude journal to daily give focus to all things in your life, great or small

  • Show internal gratitude towards yourself even when it feels difficult and uncomfortable
